EDO State is one of the few states where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will not conduct the governorship polls.

For Edo, the incumbent ,governor, Adams Oshiomhole was sworn-in in November 2008, which means that the governorship polls will hold in November 2012.

Tony Anenih |
But despite the fact that there would not be gubernatorial election in Edo in April, it has not curbed the frenzy politically as the parties prepare for the National Assembly polls and the State House of Assembly polls. And for the contest, the ruling party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), is determined to keep off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
It is expected that the battle will be between the ACN and the PDP, which many people have narrowed down to a personality contest between the PDP strong man Chief Tony Anenih and Oshiomhole.
The PDP and the ACN did not have things easy after their primaries. At the end of the primaries, many aspirants were left aggrieved in both parties. Aware of the strategic importance of the elections, the PDP insists that it must reclaim and hold onto its seats in the state House of Assembly while the ACN wants to consolidate its grip of the state by winning more seats at the National Assembly and the House of Assembly.
