My Dear Lagosians,

LAGOS 2011 AND BEYOND

In the next few weeks, the electoral mandate of 4 (four) years which you graciously gave to my Party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, on whose platform I have served you as Governor of Lagos State since 2007 will expire by the reckoning of time.

As you might be aware, the Action Congress of Nigeria has endorsed me as the Party’s Gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State in the April 2011 General Elections and I have accepted to carry the flag of the Party having reflected and consulted extensively about the enormous responsibilities that come with it, and the possibilities it offers our dear State.

I therefore consider it necessary to formally notify you of these developments and my intention to serve you for another 4 (four) years, as Governor of Lagos State.
I must once again, place on record the unquantifiable gratitude of our Government for the enormous support you have given to us during the currency of our present tenure.

This support has inspired us enormously to embark on the radical transformation of Lagos in a way that has made our dear State the reference of good governance and worthy model of democratic experience, within and outside Nigeria.

In spite of what we have done, there is a lot more I believe we can do to propel our State to even loftier heights.

The Lagos Light Rail whose construction has now started from Eric Moore towards Badagry, the completion of 8 (eight) City Master Plans and the Lagos Regional Master Plan that are already in progress to ensure the planned and orderly growth of Lagos for the next 25 (twenty-five) years, the delivery of the Lagos 10 (ten) year Water Supply Plan, the 10 year Waste Water and Sewage Management Plan, the completion of the 10 (ten) lane Lagos-Badagry Expressway to link our economy with our regional neighbours on the West Coast of Africa; the completion of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway and the Coastal Road that will open access to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the delivery of affordable housing backed by an efficient mortgage system whose planning and financing process are now concluded and ready for implementation, the completion of the Gbagada heart and kidney specialist centres that will reduce the number of our people going abroad for specialist treatment are just a few of the works, programmes and policies that are in process at this stage

The evidence of what has been achieved by the faithful and diligent implementation of our annual budgets since 2007 demonstrates our capacity to deliver whatever we commit to.

I therefore once again solicit your support for my candidacy and our Party, the Action Congress of Nigeria in the forthcoming General Elections to enable us put the experience we have developed with your support and your resources to serving you yet again.

Please be assured that I will be communicating further details of plans and programmes to you as the electoral process evolves.

Kindly accept the expression of my sincere appreciation for your support towards our efforts to deliver a brighter and rewarding future.

Eko o ni baje o!

Babatunde Raji Fashola,

SAN Governor of Lagos State
