  The recent celebration of World AIDS Day across the world has further brought to fore the activities of the stategovernment in fighting the scourge of HIV/AIDS. Right from 1999 when it set up a foundation against AIDS, which later became the State AIDS Control Agency in 2002, the state has remained at the vanguard of the campaign against the spread of the disease through its various awareness and sensitization programmes.

To demonstrate its commitment to the people of the state, and especially, those living with the disease, the state, in 2007, took another giant step to lead in the fight against discrimination with the passage of the law for the protection of persons living with HIV/AIDS. While it continues to ensure that access to HIV/AIDS preventive and curative services is improved throughout the State and the rights of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) are not infringed, the stategovernment’s awareness sensitization programmes has improved people’s knowledge and enhance positive attitudes towardsthe disease and people having it.
